St. John’s United Church Choir is a group of fun loving,
friendly and enthusiastic singers who enjoy preparing music in a variety
of styles to enhance our weekly worship services. During our
Thursday evening rehearsals we also prepare music for special
events such as nursing home visits, seasonal cantatas and
occasional cabarets. In addition we enjoy each other’s company at a
variety of social events. If you are between the ages of 16 and 96
and you would like to develop your musical abilities (whether that
is singing or a musical instrument) in a caring and supportive
atmosphere where no formal music training is required, please
contact the Church, (519) 271-3683.
Senior choir practice
is held Thursdays at 7:30 PM.
Anyone who has any interest in singing is invited to come and join
us.
Marsha Goold
Born
in Halifax, Marsha grew up in a family with East Coast values,
where musicality and hospitality reigned supreme.
Marsha
spent most of her early life in the Montreal area, where her father
was called to continue to serve as a United Church minister. Eventually, both her parents
committed to working full-time in the public school system, where
they could each make a difference in the lives of hundreds of young
people. Marsha carries that
passion to connect with children and youth and looks forward to
nurturing and challenging the younger set to play an important role
at St. John’s.
Musically,
Marsha has travelled to the other side of the world and back
again. While she first
served as a church organist at the tender age of 11 and
subsequently expected to have a career as a concert pianist, it was
her ultimate love of singing and acting that determined her
professional training.
Marsha holds a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill and
completed her academic studies for a Master of Music in Vocal
Performance at University of Toronto.
With
visions of being a world-travelling opera singer, Marsha’s
circuitous professional path took her into a country-rock band, a
touring Fleetwood Mac tribute band, the Elmer Iseler Singers and a myriad
of wonderful singing jobs, mostly at churches in Toronto. She has also enjoyed playing
characters such as police officers, FBI agents and nurses for film
and television! For the
past three years, Marsha has served with great pride as the Music Director
at St. David’s United Church in West Vancouver and hopes to see
many of her cherished friends from there coming to visit St. John’s
and Stratford!
Marsha,
along with her BC-born partner Warren, looks forward to settling
into Stratford and becoming a part of such a vibrant
community. Expect a warm
Maritime welcome at their home, that is, once they find one!
