Minister’s Message

ST. JOHN’S UNITED CHURCH

175 Waterloo St. S., Stratford

St. John’s United Church

A Church That Serves the Community”

This is St. John’s

We are working on becoming Radically Welcoming!

Read that line again! Are we saying that there will be a warm, dependable welcome at the church door and a good cup of coffee and snacks in the church hall? Sure! But Radical Welcome is so much more than that to us. It is a spiritual practice that combines the ministry of welcome and hospitality with a deep desire to recognize habits and practices that include some and exclude others. Here at St. John’s we long to welcome the voices, presence and power of everyone who worships here or participates in some aspect of our community life. We are challenging ourselves to be especially aware of those who have been pushed to the margins, cast out, silenced and closeted. We are challenging ourselves to move out of our habits and our building to connect with our community and ask how we can deepen relationships and live more fully the Dream of God for this church family, the Stratford community and the world.

We hope that you will peruse this website and get a sense of the things happening here that might interest you. We hope that you’ll contact us if you’d like to know more about anything that you see on this site. We’d welcome your attendance and participation in any of the many church and community activities that happen in our building. We’d love for you to come out on a Sunday morning and get a flavour of the way we worship and celebrate together. The first time you come, you’ll already belong. We long for the energy and the gifts that you will bring if you choose to join us. We’re working to make sure you’ll feel our welcome and find a place for your voice to be heard and your story to be shared.

Most of all we hope that we’ll meet you where you are because that’s where Radical Welcome begins.

Blessings,

Rivkah Unland

Minister
