Choir / Music

**St. John's United Church is searching for an Organist/Choir Director to complement our creative and diverse worship service.  Please see the Minister’s Message page of this website for more details.

St. John’s United Church Choir is a group of fun loving, friendly and enthusiastic singers who enjoy preparing music in a variety of styles to enhance our weekly worship services. During our Thursday evening rehearsals we also prepare music for special events such as nursing home visits, seasonal cantatas and occasional cabarets. In addition we enjoy each other’s company at a variety of social events. If you are between the ages of 16 and 96 and you would like to develop your musical abilities (whether that is singing or a musical instrument) in a caring and supportive atmosphere where no formal music training is required, please contact the Church, (519) 271-3683.

Senior choir practice is held Thursdays at 7:30 PM. Anyone who has any interest in singing is invited to come and join us..

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Ian Sadler to St John's. He will be fulfilling the role of music director while we search for a new Director of Music.

Ian Sadler began his musical training as a boy chorister at St. Paul's Cathedral, London England. He held the Organ Scholarship at Bristol University and during postgraduate study at London University was Organ Scholar back at St. Paul's Cathedral.

At age 22, he moved to Canada following his appointment as Director of Music at Toronto's Grace Church on-the-Hill. Teaching positions followed at Upper Canada College (Choral Director) and Havergal Ladies College (Music Director).

In 1986 Ian won first prize at Syracuse University's Poister Competition. Recital invitations have since followed in Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Italy, USA and the U. K. This past year, Ian presented recitals in Hawaii and in June spent 3 weeks presenting organ recitals in Australia. His Cathedral Singers of Ontario sang services this past August at Chester Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

In 2007, The Royal Canadian College of Organists honoured Ian with their highest award, an Honorary Fellowship, for his dedication to the promotion of the organ both in North America and overseas. Ian resides here in Stratford with his family and this week commences his 22nd Season as Artistic Director of the Stratford Concert Choir.
