The mission of St. Johns Preschool is to assist
children, including special needs children and their families to be
well prepared to enter the regular school system.
The Preschool serves children from Stratford and
area.
St. Johns Preschool provides a stimulating and
caring environment to children with speech; hearing; behavioural;
cognitive and other challenges. The program supports the
development of self-esteem, physical, cognitive, as well as social
skills that will equip the child to enter the primary school
system.
A reasonable fee schedule is provided to parents.
When necessary, fees may be subsidized by the City of Stratford or
by
St. Johns United Church.
Qualified
Staff
1 supervisor
2 teachers
At least 2 staff members per session plus volunteers
1 program assistant as needed
All staff experienced in working with children with special needs
Ratio of children to adults is approximately 4 to 1
All children are included in all activities to the best of their
abilities
Regular visits by Perth County Childrens Resource Consultant to
assist with program and children referred to the program

Positions
Call the Preschool regarding volunteer opportunities such as:
Food (snack) preparation
Assisting teachers and one on one assistance to children e.g.
reading stories
Organizing committee
General repairs
Student placement
Our
Program
Maximum 16 children per session
Children attend between 1 and 7 sessions weekly, based on the
childs needs, parents requests and space availability
Regular trips to Stratford Public Library
Children may be screened to identify learning strengths and
challenges
Consultation with school board as needed to facilitate entry to
JK or SK
Referral to community services as needed, e.g. Small Talk,
Stratford Hospital
Weekly themes; calendar time; gym; snack time; puzzles; music and
crafts; language and learning circle
